Professor Garza is a graduate of the Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø of Texas – Austin and Stanford Law School. After graduating from law school, she briefly practiced Labor and Employment Law at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld LLP in Washington D.C. Professor Garza then joined the Family Law section at Fulbright & Jaworski LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright) in Houston, Texas.
After practicing Family Law for several years, Professor Garza began her career in academia and previously taught at Texas Tech Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø School of Law, New England Law | Boston, Elon Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø School of Law, Barry Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø School of Law, and Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø of Memphis School of Law. She has primarily taught Constitutional Law, Family Law, Women and the Law, Race and the Law, Children and the Law, and Professional Responsibility.
Professor Garza’s scholarship focuses on reproductive rights and the intersection of parental rights and children’s rights. Her work has been published in New England Law Review, Louisiana Law Review, and UC-Davis Social Justice Law Review. She has also published op-eds on Justice Sotomayor’s appointment to the Court and marriage equality. Professor Garza was also a research fellow at Cornell Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø’s National Data Archive of Child Abuse and Neglect. She is an avid college football, figure skating, and gymnastics fan. Professor Garza also enjoys reformer pilates, binge watching reality television, and reading. She is a devoted aunt and proud dog mom of a maltese, Milo.
