Relational. Intentional. Full of integrity.

Thayne McCulloh and Katia Passerini selfie

This joyful selfie, snapped two weeks ago at the International Association of Jesuit Universities gathering in Bogotá, says so much without a single word.

There’s President Katia Passerini and President emeritus Thayne McCulloh —both smiling, both fully present, both representing the deep care and shared commitment that has defined this extraordinary leadership transition. Their time together reflects the past, present and future of Gonzaga Ā鶹¹ŁĶų—rooted in Jesuit, Catholic education, and moving forward with purpose.

As Dr. McCulloh concluded his remarkable 16-year tenure yesterday and Dr. Passerini stepped into her presidency today, I encourage you to pause and recognize how rare and meaningful this moment truly is. This transition has not been transactional—it has been relational. Intentional. Full of integrity.

Their mutual trust and shared vision for the Ā鶹¹ŁĶų is emblematic of what makes this community so special. Together, they have worked to ensure Gonzaga remains true to its mission while staying competitively relevant in a changing world. That kind of leadership—humble, hopeful, and united—is both a delight and a blessing.

In your nightly reflections and intentions, please join me in thanking, now President emeritus, Dr. Thayne McCulloh for his years of faithful service and in welcoming Dr. Katia Passerini with the same warmth and support that defines this place we all love.
