Hazing Prevention and Education
Effective June 9,2022, the state of Washington adopted Sam’s Law (RCW 28B.10.900-907) which establishes a broad statewide definition of hazing and imposes mandatory reporting and policy requirement for Washington institutes of higher education. On December 23, 2024, the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act was signed into law. Traditions provide reminders and context of Gonzaga Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s past and hopes for the future. Such rituals are to always be deeply rooted in mutual respect and dignity, and not through activities that harm or humiliate.
This United Educators Hazing Course complies with Washington State’s hazing training requirements as well as the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act regulation. In this training you will learn what hazing is and information on hazing prevention, awareness, and intervention (such as skill building for bystander intervention, information about ethical leadership, and the promotion of strategies for building group cohesion without hazing), as well as Gonzaga’s hazing policy.
All GU students are required to take this training as part of new student orientation. Faculty and staff are required to complete this course annually at the beginning of each academic year. New faculty and staff must complete the training at the beginning of the next academic term.
